Boyish Billionaire Bromance Ends: Trump and Musk Split in Pride Month Irony

In an unexpected twist soaked in irony, the high-profile bromance between the unlikely homophobic coupling of Donald Trump and Elon Musk unravelled during Pride Month.

Once united by stupidly excessive wealth, insanely unlimited power, unfaltering infantile egos, and a shared impetuous disdain for bureaucracy, Trump and Musk earlier cultivated one of the most unconventional political alliances in modern memory.

But from June 1 to June 6, 2025, that alliance publicly, utterly, and bitterly dissolved.

It all began with Elon Musk criticizing Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill on June 1. Musk called it fiscally irresponsible and a betrayal of the Department of Government Efficiency’s mission, a department Musk himself had helped shape.

The jab was unexpected. Musk had, after all, played a crucial role in helping Trump secure his second term, mobilizing tech-enthusiasts and crypto-libertarians with a well-funded, meme-laced campaign strategy.

Who said money can’t buy love?

Trump didn’t take kindly to the critique. While hosting German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on June 5 (where Trump was reminded that his family came from not-USA), Trump expressed his “deep disappointment” in Musk. Trump accused Musk of turning his back on “the greatest comeback presidency in American history.” Trump even quipped that Musk was bitter about not being brought into the administration (Reuters: From bros to foes).

Musk hit back fast and hard. In a midnight post on X (formerly Twitter), he claimed he hadn’t even been given the full bill to review, and accused Trump of being “chronically ungrateful.” He added, “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate.” The gloves were off.

Elon Musk's post

By June 6, the breakup had gone nuclear. Musk openly floated the idea of Trump facing impeachment over “chronic budgetary fraud” and said that Trump was mentioned in the still-sealed Epstein files.

“Time to drop the really big bomb,” Musk posted on his platform. “[Trump] is in the Epstein files. That is the the really reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT.”

Trump struck back on his social media platform [anythingButThe]Truth, trying to hit Musk where it hurts. In the wallet.

“The easiest way to save money on our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it.@

The timing couldn’t have been more poetic — or more ironic. Pride Month is a celebration of self-expression and breaking free from relationships that no longer serve your identity. And in their own boyishly bromantic billionaire way, Trump and Musk enacted that narrative to the fullest.

With Tesla stock dipping and EU officials now openly courting Musk with their “Choose Europe” campaign, this isn’t just the end of a bromance, it’s a geopolitical reshuffling with rainbow-hued overtones. And, Tesla may now be politically homeless.

Whether intentional or not, Musk may have just exited a codependent relationship, while Trump may have finally lost the one tech tycoon who knew how to speak his language: memes, money, and mayhem.

Happy Pride Month indeed!
